There are several ways for retailers to find trustworthy suppliers that I have mentioned above. By the way, you will have 2 more options, like Google business pages and word of mouth.

  • Google business pages can be the main source of retailers because they are searching for suppliers near them so google is best place to find suppliers in their neighborhood. Because it provide many information about particular supplier, information like overview, rate, location, social media, websites and etc. They can easily locate and go to their place with low cost and effort.
  • Word of mouth can be a key factor to find reliable supplier. And can play as a game changer player in finding manufacturer and supplier. So, if you are a retailer and have good relation with your colleagues, ask them, and use their experience.

 

  • Is it better to work with manufacturers, wholesalers, or sourcing agents?

Before answering the question, we must know the differences between Manufacturers, Wholesalers and sourcing agents.

They play different roles in Supply chain, so, we must understand their key role:

That’s why, you need to know which country or region will be the main land of your supplier or your requested goods. So, you will get directly to related platform of particular area.

How to find Suppliers?

  • How do I know if a supplier is legit and not a scam?

In my experience you can find suppliers very easy. But you have to consider some factors that we will discuss in below.

Several key factors will help you:

  1. Good and clear website (with all required contact info)
  2. Online presence over social media
  3. Having high review score in platforms like google business pages.
  4. Fast and clear response while you are calling them
  5. Third-party verifications from valid sources like Chamber of commerce
  6. Clear and transparent documents.
  7. Registration in various associates.

The mentioned factors are some of the main key indicators, but keep this in your mind that you have to deal with the risks too. Cause as you know every company (even with best reputation) can fall and refuse to fulfil your needs.

  • What are the warning signs of a bad supplier?

The answer is simple, if the supplier, doesn’t have clear presence. You have to be cautious.

Ask for their past clients, if they don’t prove, raise a red flag. Trust your instinct you can find better supplier by searching more.

  • Can I find suppliers at trade shows, and are they worth attending?

Yes, the Best way to find real supplier in Trade shows. And you will find more than one or two suppliers there. Trade shows are the places that you can find opportunity to meet many suppliers in one place. Ask your questions from them even if you don’t know how to verify them online. You can find many suppliers in same industries all in one place and have Face to face meeting with them.

As the experience showed, to reduce the risk it is better to work with more than one supplier. Because if they fail in some stages you will have a chance to replace them ASAP. On the other hand, keep that in your mind, you can find better prices, more flexible options, lower production time and higher chance of negotiation over you requests.

Therefore, I strongly recommend you to find multiple supplier and manufacturer to increase your winning rate and reduce the risk of losing a good market over your competitors.

 

  • What tools or software help manage and communicate with suppliers?

Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Software is best tool that can help you to manage and track each supplier. They work like CRM but instead of Customers they are specialized for Suppliers. The SRM software like, Coupa, GEP SMART can help you to manage multiple suppliers.

Other systems can help you too, such as ERP systems, VMS system. They are most likely for working flows and automatization of the suppliers. There are many programs such as SAP, Oracle and Zycus that can answer your needs over managing your manufactures.
